Playing together as a team, sharing coping skills, learning new tools: That is what the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program is all about – and, with a new special event, it is taking its mission to help a fallen hero and his foundation help others.
In partnership with Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers, the Michigan Warriors are teaming up with the Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation to raise money in support of working K-9 officers throughout the country.
The Support the Paws That Enforce the Laws Charity Hockey Game is set for 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program, a team made up of all military veterans, will face off against police officers from the St. Clair Shores and Sterling Heights Police Departments. The event is being held at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena.
The Michigan Warriors are proud to team up with the Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation to raise money in support of working K-9 officers throughout the country. This charity organization provides safety equipment including first aid supplies, naloxone reversal kits, and oxygen masks to working canine officers.
The admission price is $10 a person but there are different ticket prices to allow for additional donations to charity. Kids under the age of 12 years old are free. There will be a 50/50 Raffle, family-friendly activities such as Chuck-A-Puck and many donated raffle items to bid on. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation.
Doors for the event will open at 1:00PM. Puck drop between the Warriors and the Police Departments will start at 2:00PM. Tickets can be purchased at Saint Clair Shores Civic Ice Arena or online.
The Michigan Warriors Hockey Program is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Disabled Veterans through the sport of hockey. Established in 2014, it is an organization driven by “progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support for our veterans,” according to its mission statement.
The Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Local Marketing Association (LMA) is comprised of 38 Chevrolet dealerships in Southeastern Michigan. It is the MDCD mission to take an active role in local communities and to support the Metro Detroit area by featuring local events, venues, bands, charities and people in its marketing campaigns.
It is natural that the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program would support a police officer such as Collin Rose, whose story touched many hearts since his death nearly five years ago. On November 23, 2016, Rose, then a Wayne State University Police Officer, was killed in the line of duty. To many people, Rose made the ultimate sacrifice.
His family, friends, the city of Detroit and the entire nation remembered him as a hero and his funeral made headlines. In the year after his death, a committee of Rose’s current and former co-workers came together to create The Officer Collin Rose Memorial Foundation. The foundation’s first event, a golf outing, was designed to memorialize their late friend. The outpouring of support and interest in the outing led the committee to incorporate as a non-profit organization to better honor Rose.
